Update with Regard to Public Inquiry Proposed Motorway Service
Area, Monkspath
The Public Inquiry was due to open on 12th June, 2007 at the Civic
Suite, Solihull. However, the pre inquiry meeting on 19th March
2007 was adjourned because of lack of resolution of highway issues
in time to meet the requisite timetable.
There will now be a further pre-inquiry meeting on Monday 11th
June to establish a new timetable for the Public Inquiry and a new
date will be allocated for the Public Inquiry. |
At the Public Inquiry held in 1999 into the three potential sites
(Catherine de Barnes, Junction 5 Ravenshaw and Junction 4 Boxtrees) for
a Motorway Service Area along the M42 Motorway, all three ‘cluster
groups’ and Solihull MBC objected to the proposals. The Planning
Inspector recommended to the Secretary of State that there should be a
Motorway Service Area at Catherine de Barnes.
The Public Inquiry into the proposed Motorway Service Area at Catherine
de Barnes is to be re-opened on 12 June 2007 to consider this proposal
in the light of certain changes in circumstances.
A revised planning application has also been submitted for a Motorway
Service Area at Junction 4 Boxtrees as an alternative to the
Catherine-de-Barnes site. Access to the Motorway Service Area would be
via the existing roundabout on the A34 / M42, which would be enlarged
with the creation of additional traffic lanes to accommodate increased
numbers of vehicles. The Parish Council are objecting to this
application on the grounds of impact on the Green Belt, noise pollution,
light pollution and increased traffic and congestion at the motorway
junction.
Solihull MBC has not made a decision on this application at Junction 4
Boxtrees, and the applicants, Shirley Estates Limited, have appealed to
the Planning Inspectorate against non-determination of their
application. This new appeal is to be considered at the same Public
Inquiry opening on 12 June 2007.
Details of the proposals are available at: - Solihull Connect and
www.solihull.gov.uk
Should you wish to comment on or object to the proposed MSA at Junction
4 Boxtrees, please write to: -
